AUTOGRAPH COLLECTION

Autograph Collection – Autograph #361

Jerry Dipoto – Cleveland Indians

Autograph #361 in my collection is an autographed 3×5 index card signed by former Major League Baseball pitcher Jerry Dipoto, who played for the Cleveland Indians.

I don't remember exactly when I sent the request for this autograph, but I do know when it arrived. The envelope was received on March 11, 1994, making this a special addition to my growing autograph collection.

Jerry Dipoto was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the third round of the 1989 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut on May 11, 1993, and pitched for Cleveland during the 1993 and 1994 seasons.

During his eight-year major league career, Dipoto also pitched for the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies. He finished his playing career with 27 wins, 24 losses, 49 saves, and a 4.05 earned run average.

One interesting fact about Jerry Dipoto is that after his playing career ended, he went on to become a prominent baseball executive. He eventually became President of Baseball Operations for the Seattle Mariners.

It's always enjoyable looking back through these autographs, especially when I can put a date on when they arrived. Even when I can't remember exactly when I mailed the original request, the postmark in my collection helps preserve a little piece of baseball history.
